The Chant of the Invisible – Introduction to Overtone Singing with Arthuan Rebis (Workshop)

This workshop will make its first stop in Zurich, at the prestigious Rietberg Museum, Switzerland's largest museum of non-European art, on November 22, 2025, during the exhibition "Mongolia, a Journey through Time."

Arthuan introduces participants to the art of overtone and guttural singing, exploring the hidden harmonics of the human voice through simple exercises and collective chants. Alongside the practice, he highlights the syncretic links between Mongolian, Tibetan, shamanic, and ancient European traditions, demonstrating how sound connects spirituality and culture. Live demonstrations with Celtic harps, frame drums, and Chinese hulusi enrich the experience with musical examples. Open to all levels, the workshop offers both practical exploration and syncretic cultural insights.

Overtone singing (diplophonic or triplophonic) is a bridge between the visible and invisible worlds, between science and spirit, between nature and consciousness, and invites us to listen to what vibrates beyond audible sound, at the heart of mystery.

Overtone singing (overtone or undertone singing) was created to enable contact with spiritual entities (external and internal).

The inaudible, revealing itself, brings with it the invisible.

The secret frequencies, latent within every single sound, flood human perception, inducing a feeling of unification with the oceanic consciousness, as understood by wisdom and shamanic cultures.

Although the singing traditions of Tuva, Mongolia, and Tibet are the richest, we have enough material to trace a syncretic path that leads to the present day and beyond time, into the mysteries of nature, vibration, and what we call reality.
